Northgate Jazz Co-Op Chiang Mai
Live music lovers visiting Chiang Mai need to go to Northgate Jazz Co-Op - Chiang Mai’s most well known jazz club. Northgate is raging - nightly, weekly, yearly and often the party get pushed out onto the street and even onto the ancient city walls near ประตูช้างเผือก Chang Phuak Gate with a great mix of soul, blues, funk, rock and jazz music.
Owner Pharadon ‘Por’ Phonamnuai wanted a place to support local musicians who wanted to create and play music. Por’s vision was to have different bands each night and and instill confidence in Thai musicians to do their own music, not covers. His original vision worked and Northgate has established itself and the premier live, local and original music venue in Chiang Mai.
I have visited Northgate on many occasions and have enjoyed the experience every time! My tip… hang around for the last band, as they are usually the best of the night, and this is when the crowd is ready to rock. Northgate is open every night from 9.30 – midnight and all the music is live.
