Thai Visa Extension

How to Extend Your Thai Visa in Chiang Mai

Is your Thai Tourist Visa ready to expire? Are you a tourist stuck in Chiang Mai, Thailand during the COVID-19 period and can’t get out? Then you will need to extend your Thai Visa - as I did last week. Here is some key information about extending your Thai 30-day or 60-day Tourist Visa:

PHOTO - You will need to get yourself a Passport Photo and here are some places in Chiang Mai that will take, process and print Visa photos:

PHOTOCOPIES - You will need to photocopy your Passport Information Page and your Thai Arrival/Departure card (the one they staple into your passport) and your arrival stamp from Immigration when you arrived in the country. You will need to sign theses photocopied pages and here are some places that can help you with photocopies in Chiang Mai:

  • Tian Extension Visa Services By Khuan Tay - A shop that is conveniently located opposite the Chiang Mai Immigration Office. https://goo.gl/maps/8yCzEirZwsLgP13VA

  • Photocopy Shop ข้าวมันไก่นันทาราม โดยนางพัชรินทร์ โพธิ์สุวรรณ์ - friendly and cheap photocopies. https://goo.gl/maps/eSpZzHVVFpRB8E319

  • Copyland Photocopy and Printing Shop - this shop will help you with cheap photocopies and there is actually about 5 photocopy shops on this street… all side-by-side. https://goo.gl/maps/9Khg2V6aAkcNQmcR6

CASH - you will need THB 1,900 for a Thai Visa Extension

COMPLETED TM7 FORM - you will need to complete and sign the TM7 Thai Visa Extension Form. Be sure to have an accurate address and phone number and write on the form. You will also be required to paste your passport sized photo to the form and glue is available at the Thai Immigration Office. TM7 forms are available at the Immigration Office.

IMMIGRATION OFFICE - At the time of writing the only place to get your Thai Visa Extended in Chiang Mai is at: Chiang Mai Immigration Office ตรวจคนเข้าเมืองจังหวัดเชียงใหม่ https://goo.gl/maps/YqYSMvL2zP46q8WY9 . This is where you will go to submit forms and documents and receive your visa extension.

There is another office for extending visas, however, it is currently closed during the Coronavirus COVID-19 shutdown, and it is at Promenada Chiang Mai https://goo.gl/maps/RzZP5pGZwWgKhy5UA

OTHER REMARKS - Be sure to submit prior to the date your Visa expires - because there are steep fines and penalties for over staying your visa. Take a book to read while you wait…. because the process is very slow. You will submit your application and passport and the visa is extended while you wait, same-day. The Visa extension date will be extended from the last visa’s expiration date, not the the date you visit the office - so go a few days prior to the expiration date. Have patience and enjoy your time in the Land of Smiles!
