Suanluang Rama IX Public Park:

  • Suan Luang Rama IX (also referred to as (King) Rama IX Park), is a public park in Bangkok's Prawet District. With an area of 500 rai (80 ha; 200 acres), it is the largest park in Bangkok.

  • The park was built to celebrate King Bhumibol Adulyadej's sixtieth birthday (5th Cycle Birthday Anniversary) in 1987

  • The "Phanmai Ngam Aram Suan Luang Ror Kao" (Beautiful Flora in the Suan Luang Rama IX Park) fair is held annually here in December since 1987, the year it was founded.

  • 6 sections which are:

    • Area 1-The Garden of the Great King the pavilion's interior contains nine mirrored rooms that exhibit various facts of His Majesty's life, artifacts and background information on projects initiated by the royal family.

    • Area 2-The Botanic Garden The garden houses a massive collection of plant species. Organized by their taxonomic and ecological settings, the plants are used for research, conservation and education purposes.

    • Area 3-The Reservoir (Traphang Kaew Keb Nam) An initiative of His Majesty, the Reservoir was built to minimize the impact of flooding in Bangkok's eastern suburbs. Today, the reservoir is popular for water sports.

    • Area 4-Romanee Garden designed to resemble natural habitats and environments found throughout upcountry Thailand. Rocks, plants and flowers were taken from difference part of the country and arranged to imitate natural scenes thereby transporting the visitor into the beautiful forests of Thailand. The mountains, waterfalls, and creeks were placed in the center of the garden. And fragrant plants have been planted around Phut-Chan Pavilion. We can see the commemorative sculpture, depicting the activities of Her Majesty the Queen on the bank of the Reservior.

    • Area 5-The Water Garden was created to resemble a natural 'Phru' (bog) habitat and home for aquatic fowl and other aquatic species. Visitors to the garden can study the behavioural patterns of its in habitants and learn about the different plants and their purposes.

    • Area 6-The Sanam Rasdara and Sport Center The musical pavilion and large lawn in front is used as an outdoor stage for various performances. The lawn is also used as a market place for ornamental plants during the 'Magnificent Plants that Beautify the Suan Luang Rama IX Flowers Festival ' held in early December.

    • Further to six aforementioned areas an international garden featuring arrangements from different regions of the world can also be found in Suan Luang Rama IX Public Park:- Chinese garden and Japanese Gardens are representing the eastern countries of the world.- Spanish, English, French and Italian Gardens are representing countries of the western world.- The United States of America is represented by Geodesic dome used for planting drought-resistant plants such as cacti.

BIRDING at Suan Luang Rama IX:

  • Coppersmith Barbets are common here (when they are heard it is apparent how they got their name), as they in other parks in Bangkok, and they, along with some of the other colourful species found here including Common Iora and Lineated Barbet, offer a good chance to practice your photography at all times of the year.

  • During migratory periods this park suddenly has an influx of different species with birds such as Asian Brown Flycatcher, Yellow-rumped Flycatcher, Easter Crowned Warbler, Yellow-browed Warbler, Black-winged Cuckooshrike, Black-naped Oriole and Ashy Drongo all regular and over the years many much rarer migrants have been found.

  • As this part of the city rapidly develops this park is one of the main greenspaces of this region of Bangkok attracting both migratory and resident birds as well as a lot of locals using it for recreation. The park is a popular place for joggers and picnics and can get quite busy, so it is essential to arrive early in the morning. This park's location near the edge of Bangkok and next to a reservoir means that a surprising number of species can be seen in a morning here, something which has not passed the Bird Conservation of Thailand by as they arrange regular bird walks here for the public to join and learn about bird watching.

Srinagarindra Train Night Market:

  • Talat Rot Fai began its life back in 2011 in the north of Bangkok, Specialising in both new and second-hand retro and vintage goods, but also packing in a great selection of food and drink, the market was an informal affair and had a real rough-around-the-edges feel to it. In the early days, even getting in meant climbing through a hole in the perimeter fence! However, the market existed semi-illegally on land owned by the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), and as a result its fate was always going to be uncertain. The market came to an abrupt end in May 2013, when its structure was partially demolished in spite of verbal agreements with the SRT, which sought to reclaim the land for construction of one of the city’s new transit lines. After a brief absence from the Bangkok night market scene, Talat Rot Fai re-emerged on a disused spot behind the Seacon Square shopping centre on Srinakarin Road, in the east of Bangkok and far from its previous location.

  • The market was founded by Pairod Roikaew, previously an antiques dealer, in 2010. It was located on part of the SRT's railway yard between the Saphan Khwai and Mo Chit BTS Skytrain stations and not far from the famous Chatuchak weekend market, among unused warehouses, tracks and rolling stock (hence the name). Featuring a vintage atmosphere, it quickly became popular with Bangkok's youth, but was forced to close down in 2013 when the area was marked for construction of the Bang Sue Central Station. Pairod reopened the market at a new location on Srinagarindra Road, behind the Seacon Square shopping centre. The new location, despite being far from the city centre with no rapid transit access, continued to be popular, and a second branch next to The Esplanade shopping centre was opened on Ratchadaphisek Road in 2015. A third branch on Kaset–Nawamin (Prasoet Manukit) Road was opened later the same year. (Ram Inthra Rd, Tha Raeng, Bang Khen, Bangkok  - towards Don Meung)

  • Bars are a prominent fixture at Talat Rot Fai, too, and for many these make the market just as much of a destination as the shopping opportunities. You’re sure to find a spot to suit you no matter whether you choose to kick back at one of the ‘proper’ structures with actual walls, both along the market’s entrance walkway and around its perimeter, and often with live music.

  • Talad Rot Fai literally means ‘Train Market’ in English.

  • The market in its retro style attracts hipsters, teenagers, and all types who love to hang out at cool, laid back places to shop, eat, and listen to awesome music. The Train Market is recognized for antique products, vintage clothing, memorabilia, retro furniture, and all types of shopping. You can also find all other weird, different kind of products in this market.

  • Opening Times: Thursday through Sunday 5-12 – Friday and Saturday night are the best nights to go!

  • The Ratchada Train Night Market was arguably one of the most famous night markets in Bangkok among tourists. Even though its setting is slightly smaller than that at Srinakarin, there are lots of food trucks that has been increased and the location is easily to be reached by public transportation, behind the Esplanade Cineplex, such factors have been drawing a lot of interest. The folks behind one of Bangkok’s most popular after-dark flea markets said Monday that rumors of its demise were untrue. Reached for comment following reports that the Train Night Market Ratchada, aka Talad Rot Fai, had closed down for good due to the pandemic, a member of its management team said the market’s closure was only temporary and it would reopen as soon as conditions allowed. Bangkok’s extremely-popular Train Night Market Ratchada, also known as Talad Rot Fai Ratchada, is to permanently close due to the financial disruption caused by Covid-19, according to several traders who have been asked to move out from the site. Pre-Covid it was one of the most in-demand tourist attractions in Bangkok, often rated by visitors as one of the best night markets in the world. Now, according to the Thai language site Kapook, the decision has been made to shut the bazaar forever.

  • December 9, 2021 - Bangkok’s Train Night Market Ratchada is now returns with a new location and new name, but still with the same vendors with a wide variety of stalls including street food, clothes and accessories, furniture, vintage items, handcrafts. The market, now called JODD Fairs, is near CentralPlaza Grand Rama 9. The new spacious area has open-air bars to hang out and more “Instagrammable” spots. The market is located behind Central’s building, just drop at Rama 9 MRT Station Exit. 2 and work through the shopping mall to the market. The market is open everyday from 11am until midnight. Rama IX Rd, Huai Khwang, Bangkok 10310
